True Differential Pressure for the Best Accuracy
Mensor CPT8900 High Accuracy Differential Pressure Transducer is a high accuracy pressure instrument that leaves little room for error
What is Differential Pressure and Why Does It Matter?
Differential pressure is the difference in pressure between two points, calculated by subtracting the pressure at one point from the pressure at another. For example, if the pressure at point A is 100 psi and the pressure at point B is 30 psi, the differential pressure is 70 psi. It is crucial for monitoring pressure flow and levels to prevent leaks.
What is a Differential Pressure Transducer?
A differential pressure transducer is a device that measures the difference between the pressure at two points in a system. This is made possible when an absolute sensor reads the static -- also known as reference -- pressure while the gauge sensor reads the difference between the static and a measured, secondary source.
How Does a Differential Pressure Transducer Work?
A differential pressure transducer is similar to a gauge transducer. Where a gauge transducer uses atmospheric pressure as a reference, a differential transducer has a secondary input where you can vary the reference. The output of the transducer is the difference between the primary line of pressure and the secondary reference pressure.
Aerospace
Differential pressure is used across the the aerospace industry in various applications such as wind tunnels, air data test systems for pitot-static systems, engine characterization and testing, manufacturing processes and flight sensor calibration.
Oceanography
Differential pressure is used to monitor wave propagations and in seafloor seismometer systems. Accurate readings are valuable in modelling/predicting ocean activity.
Calibration Labs
Differential pressure is used across a wide variety of markets, with varying accuracy requirements, leading to a large market of transducers to fit various needs. For these differential pressure sensors, calibration or verification can ensure that these sensors meet their specifications.
Flow Measurement
Differential pressure can be used to measure flow across a barrier, like a filter or orifice. This is often used in more industrial settings, where measuring flow rates is used for process control and efficiency.
Level Measurement
Differential pressure can be used to measure the level of fluid in a tank by comparing the pressure of the top and bottom of the tank. Critical measurements might be needed where costly materials are stored or transferred.
